GouldHome > Tobin Bridge and Chelsea smokestacks at dawn
  (Dec 06, 2004, 06:47am)

It was a work day, and I usually go swimming at the local YMCA before work, but on the way to the Y, the clouds looks interesting, over land but not over the water. So I turned the car around and wet back for my camera and tripod. Then over to Robbins Farm in Arlington in time to catch the sunrise.

This picture shows the Tobin Bridge and smokestacks in Chelsea in the pre-dawn glow. I took this picture while waiting for the sun to rise; the patterns of the smoke in silhouette interested me.

Just over a week later than my last picture from Robbins Farm in Arlington, here you can see the sun has progressed further south. It is now rising behind the northernmost buildings of downtown Boston. I will have to try again in a week.

This was my best sunrise picture from the morning of November 27th. As you can see, the sun has only moved as far south as East Boston. If you look closely, you can just catch the towers of the Zakim Bridge on the left edge of the solar disk.

Robbins Farm in Arlington, MA, just down from the water tower. Unlike Prospect Hill Park, it only takes me ten minutes from when I climb in to my car until I am setup to take pictures at Robbins Farm. This makes Robbins Farm more convenient, except that it is further north than Prospect Hill Park. From Arlington, the sun rises behind Boston only in December.

On November 27th, with no clouds in the sky, I drove over to Robbins Hill Park and set up for the sunrise. I took this picture a few minutes before the sun came up.
