GouldHome > Fall colors in Prospect Hill Park
  (Oct 18, 2004, 3:09pm)

The next day I sent to Prospect Hill Park, in Waltham, MA. Prospect Hill Park is a 250 acre wooded park with a couple of large hills, and an abandoned ski area. It is also the site of a yearly orienteering meet.I took an hour off from work to visit Prospect Hill Park in the afternoon to see if I could fine any interesting foliage colors. Unfortunately, the park was mostly yellow and green, with very little red which made for less than exciting pictures.

Daphne thought that this picture was worth keeping. It shows a pair of ruins that straddle one of the trails (specifically the Boy Scout Trail) under a canopy of seasonal colors.
GouldHome > Stone wall through Whipple Hill in the fall
  (Oct 17, 2004, 12:19pm)

Stone walls are a common sight throughout New England, and the Whipple Hill area is no exception. I spotted this stone wall at the Southern end of the conservation area and thought that the sight of the stone wall disappearing over the hill made a nice picture.

  (Oct 17, 2004, 12:06pm)

At the southeastern end of the Whipple Hill conservation area (Lexington, MA), within sight of houses in Arlington, I came across these wild Asters growing on the path. I was fortunate enough to have my tripod and my macro lens (although I really did not need a macro lens for this shot.)

This is a section of the main path through the center of Whipple Hill. Although some of the leaves had already fallen (as you can see on the path), there was still plenty of color in the trees.

GouldHome > Fall foliage across pond at Whipple Hill
  (Oct 17, 2004, 11:28am)

The next stop on my fall foliage tour was Whipple Hill; a 120 acre conservation area in the northeast corner of Lexington, MA. This day, the trees on Whipple Hill were at the peak of color.

This is a picture of fall foliage reflects in a small pond, on the eastern edge of the Whipple Hill area. With bright sun and no wind, the reflection of the trees is almost as spectatular as the trees themselves.
GouldHome > Foliage near Sandy Beach on Upper Mystic Lake
  (Oct 17, 2004, 10:04am)

This is a turn around for cars in the MDC park. The lake is well out if sight, straight ahead. I was lucky in this shot, because the homeless man sleeping under the second tree on the left had woken up and walked away.

  (Oct 17, 2004, 09:29am)

Next stop was the shore of Upper Mystic Lake on the WInchester/Medford line. The MDC maintains a park and beach on the eastern shore of the lake.

This shot shows one of the most colorful trees in the area, looking North. The trees in the background are all on the eastern shore of Upper Mystic Lake (which is not visible in this picture).
