(143 pics) Photographs from the first third of our 2004 trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, when we stayed at Petit Byahaut. Please read the journal before looking at the pictures (link).
The first part of the hike was bamboo forest (Jul 17, 2004, 10:41am) The La Soufriere trail has two distinct characters. The first two-thirds of the trip went through a tropical rain forest, including sections of bamboo trees (as seen here). The trail was soft, but steeply sloped in most places. And the air was oppressively humid.
Look at all the vines hanging from the trees (Jul 17, 2004, 10:42am)
What passes for the flat part of the trail (Jul 17, 2004, 10:45am) Although not clear from this picture, much of the first section of the trail was on the top of a narrow ridge. A few feet to the left or right was a large drop-off to the forest floor.
