(143 pics) Photographs from the first third of our 2004 trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, when we stayed at Petit Byahaut. Please read the journal before looking at the pictures (link).
Start of the La Soufriere hike (Jul 17, 2004, 10:38am) And here we have the trailhead. The car (which you see pictured), took us up to the 1000 foot level on the volcano's slope, but the rest was up (sic) to us. The crater's lip is at 4,049 feet; only 3,000 up from this point.
Looking across the forest canopy at the start (Jul 17, 2004, 10:38am)
The first part of the hike was bamboo forest (Jul 17, 2004, 10:41am) The La Soufriere trail has two distinct characters. The first two-thirds of the trip went through a tropical rain forest, including sections of bamboo trees (as seen here). The trail was soft, but steeply sloped in most places. And the air was oppressively humid.
