How the turtles travel from Bequia to PSV
  (Jul 25, 2004, 02:58pm)

You may remember that one of the first pictures in this gallery was a box of baby turtles that was going to be send to the turtle research center on Bequia. Well, a few days into our stay, Petit St. Vincent had a turtle release, which they invited the guests to. Year old turtles were shipped back to PSV from Bequia and released into the wild.

The turtles are carries to PSV in water-filled containers like this one, with two turtles per container. Then the turtles are released, one by one, at the top of Atlantic Beach. I brought my camera to the turtle release and took some wonderful pictures of the turtles as they crawled down the beach to the ocean.

Here you can see a Petit St. Vincent staff member releasing one of the turtles. Notice that the other guests hung out at the top of the beach with the point and shoot cameras. Meanwhile, I was lower down on the beach, among the turtles, with my zoom lens, taking close-ups.
    Turtle and turtle toy

This turtle wasn't really playing with that nut on the beach. But from this picture, it sure looks like the nut might be a turtle toy.
