Forest of sailboat masts in Tyrrel Bay
  (Jul 20, 2004, 06:09pm)

There is obviously a marina at the southern end of Tyrrel Bay as evidenced by the large number of sailboat masts near shore. A closer look reveals that the sailboats in question are actually out of the water.
Seagull eats a piece of bread
  (Jul 21, 2004, 09:12am)

When sailing, kitchen scraps usually go overboard, much to the delight of the seagulls in the area. Here I caught a seagull grabbing a piece of bread that found its way over the side of the boat.
    Seagull in flight
  (Jul 21, 2004, 09:13am)

Whenever a flock of seagulls would come round looking for food, I took out my camera in an attempt to catch pictures of the birds in flight. My Nikon D70 DSLR has the ability to autofocus on moving objects (like seagulls), so assuming the light was good enough, I could try to follow a bird with the camera as it circled the boat. I took lots of pictures this way (the camera is also very fast), and ended up keeping a few decent ones.

This is the first batch of seagull pictures. I have a second set of seagull pictures that I took a few days later while we were at the Tobago Cays. Then in the third gallery, corresponding to our time at Petit St. Vincent, I have a set of pictures of frigate birds in flight.
